Champion Personnel Case Study

How Champion Personnel strengthened leadership, communication, and culture through mental fitness

An 8-Week Mental Fitness initiative that helped an entire team navigate stress, improve communication, and build a shared language for growth.

Todd Bertsch - Mental Fitness Coach with Champion Personnel Team

Building the mindset of a champion

Champion Personnel partnered with Todd Bertsch to bring Mental Fitness training to their entire 17-person organization through the Positive Intelligence® program.

What started as a leadership and personal growth initiative quickly became something much bigger.

Over the course of eight weeks, the Champion team learned how to better manage stress, reduce reactivity, improve communication, and strengthen how they showed up for themselves and one another.

The result was not just individual growth, but a measurable shift in culture, awareness, and team dynamics.

The Challenge

Like many organizations today, Champion Personnel was navigating the human side of performance.

At the beginning of the program, team members identified common challenges including:

  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Reactivity and Procrastination
  • Perfectionism and Judgment
  • Difficulty staying positive
  • Become more empathetic and emotionally aware

And when asked what mattered most to them, the answers were remarkably consistent:

  • Family
  • Supporting one another
  • Doing great work

The challenge was not capability. It was learning how to perform and communicate more effectively under pressure.

The Solution

Champion Personnel implemented the Positive Intelligence® Mental Fitness program across the entire organization.

The experience included:

  • 90-Minute team kickoff keynote “The Mindset of a Champion”
  • An 8-week guided Mental Fitness program
  • Weekly virtual coaching sessions led by Todd Bertsch
  • Small team cohorts of 5-7 employees
  • Daily Mental Fitness reps through the PQ app
  • Real-time application in leadership and workplace situations
  • 3 months of team accountability calls

The program focused on helping participants recognize and interrupt negative mental patterns, known as Saboteurs, while strengthening more intentional and productive responses through Sage-based thinking and behavior.

Rather than simply learning concepts, participants practiced building new mental habits through consistent repetition and reflection.

Why This Approach Was Different

Most leadership and personal development programs provide insight. This program focused on building mental muscle.

Using principles grounded in neuroscience, behavioral psychology, positive psychology, and performance science, the Champion team practiced small daily exercises designed to strengthen:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Resilience
  • Empathy
  • Communication Under Pressure

The goal was not temporary motivation. It was creating sustainable behavioral change that could be applied both personally and professionally.

Positive Intelligence is backed by science
Kyle Wells

“Under Todd’s coaching, the Positive Intelligence program became far more than a development initiative. It gave Champion a central operating system and shared language for how we communicate, collaborate, and show up each day. Todd has a unique ability to translate powerful mental fitness concepts into simple, practical habits that immediately changed how we handle challenges, manage stress, and lead others.

The impact has been lasting. We are more resilient, more cohesive as a team, and more intentional in how we respond instead of react. Todd helped us build a framework that strengthens both our performance and our culture, and that continues to influence our daily lives and leadership.”
